Board of Advisors
Members of ATI's unpaid board of advisors would lend their names, titles and prestige
to the organization to illustrate its policy inflection and provide guidance. Advisors would
each have policy or legal expertise, and/or think tank experience, which could be tapped
by ATI's leaders as they grow the organization and develop programs to achieve its
mission.
Advisors would be called upon for consultation on internal matters, research topics,
response to breaking news, criticisms from outside individuals, organizations or media,
or any other matters for which they'd be trusted to provide valuable input.
Senior Fellows
ATI's senior fellows program will represent a selection of the nation's most respected
policy experts. Drawn from the ranks of academia, economics, mining, energy,
environmental sciences, forestry, and other appropriate professional fields, senior
fellows will also advise ATI staff and leaders on free-market, individual liberty positions
on energy, environment, natural resource use, and property rights issues. As needed
they will produce and publish studies, articles, commentaries, policy papers, and
letters to the editor on behalf of ATI. They will also conduct media interviews, testify at
legislative hearings, and speak publicly for ATI as needed and as their schedules allow.
Senior fellows may also conduct peer review of ATI research reports before they are
released to the public. They will be compensated for their work either on a case-by-case
basis (dependent upon the amount of time and resources required for their projects) or
on a monthly stipend with a more fixed agreement regarding involvement.
Research Fellows
Research fellows will provide expertise and exposure for ATI's positions on various
issues on a contract or monthly basis. As ATI's policy areas are expanded and funding
is raised for them, qualified researchers will be commissioned for studies. Broad
issue areas will be energy, environment and property rights, with possible subtopics
to include Endangered Species Act abuse and reform; overreach and misbehavior by
state and federal agencies (including EPA); the economic impact of various interests'
anti-development efforts; unintended consequences of environmental regulations and
market-distorting legislation; transparency; and others.
Generally, research fellows will have strong writing and analytical skills, but may not
have a specialty expertise in one particular area like senior fellows might. They will
produce reports, op-eds, letters to the editor, and perhaps speak or testify in hearings.
Their work will be reviewed by ATI executive leadership, an appropriate senior fellow, or both.
Investigative & Media Fellows
ATI investigative fellows will come from a journalistic or blogging background in which
they have demonstrated a strong aptitude for producing enterprising stories that
reveal corruption, waste or fraud. ATI's executive director will work with investigators
on projects that uncover conflicts of interest, hypocrisy, misuse of resources, and
gaming of government programs to favor special interests. Other projects could include
exposés of: corporations who kowtow to the Green movement; environmental extremist
groups and their leaders who abuse the legislative, judicial and regulatory processes;
academia; and scientific associations who behave more like activists than objective fact-
finders.
Investigative fellows will be compensated for their work on a case-by-case basis,
dependent upon the amount of time required for their projects, or on a monthly basis.
